Outcast Universe, how it all started
After years of hoping and waiting, the news came that the original developers of Outcast had re-acquired the rights of the IP. They decided to create a Kickstarter campaign to gain funds to work further on the franchise of Outcast. With the launch of the Kickstarter, Roy was supporting the Kickstarter in every way that he could to gain more backers: creating pictures for promotion, talking to other Outcast fans, informing gaming websites about the Kickstarter, writing articles about Outcast, and so on.
During that time he also got in contact with the developers and got to test several test builds of Outcast 1.1 and providing feedback about certain aspects of the game. Danny however, started to create a fan website to support the campaign but due to time constraints, work and such, the site was never finished. After the Kickstarter campaign and release of Outcast 1.1 on Steam and gog.com, Roy and Danny both stayed in contact with the developers.
By the end of 2015, Roy and Danny were informed by the developers about the future ideas of Outcast – Second Contact. Because of this new information, Roy started to create a fan community website in secret to help Appeal promote when they would finally release the news to the world. The site was to be called Outcast Online and it was pretty much done but suddenly there was a turn of events.
Roy got in contact with Danny on January 3, 2016 to ask some advice for Outcast Online. In their conversation, ideas about Outcast Online started to change. We decided we should split the rolls: Roy would create the content for the site and Danny would take care of the technical aspects. We started from scratch and copied most of the finished content from Outcast Online to the new concept site.
So, for the last couple of months we worked on the site, tweaked it, added things and much more and now it is finished. Some ideas didn’t make the cut for our release but who knows what the future brings 😉
